Internship is a crucial step for college students or individuals to gain work experience before post grad job search. It's not enough to just get an internship, you have got to impress your employer and perhaps secure a job with them. These are some of the tips that we've curated to help you make full use of the opportunity.
  • Know what to expect
You have to have an idea of the kind of tasks that you will be expected to do. Besides the actual learning experience that you’ll gain, don’t go weirded out when they ask you to make coffee, buy lunch or run errands for colleagues; this is normal, all interns go through it. Remember, every task you do will be counted for.
  • Own up to mistakes
An internship isn’t a smooth sailing ride unless you’re a perfecto. You are bound to make a couple of mistakes. Don’t panic! If you’re caught, admit to the mistakes and provide a reassurance that you will not repeat it. This will show that you're a responsible intern. Also do try to avoid unnecessary excuses.

  • Take the opportunity to ask
You might be intimidated to ask your employers or colleagues about things so as to not seem like a total lost cause. They love interns who are interested to learn and are not afraid to ask. It shows that you're motivated and have a genuine interest in the job. The faster you know about the in and outs the better you'll be at doing your work independently. Although, if you're unsure about a given task, try and find the solution yourself first, you don't want to be called a spoon fed baby.

  • Be on time
Coming early will give you time to plan ahead for the day. Also manage your work accordingly so that you'll be able to submit it when it's due. If you come early and your boss is around then you might get an important task that will contribute to your resume. Remember, the early bird catches the worm!
  • All eyes on you
When you’re doing an internship, employers are watching your every move regarding your work ethics and the actual work that you do. Some are just waiting for you to slip up. So minimise errors if you can. Usually you will be assigned to a supervisor so their recommendation to the boss will weigh a lot.
  • Be wary of your social media
No, they are not going to do anything to your accounts but they will observe what you post online. Nowadays, your social media accounts can also be a part of how they see you as an individual. So when doing your internship, don't trash talk them on your social media or complain about the workload that they give you. You never know who's reading it.
  • Be proactive
Bring forth ideas to the table during meetings or suggest your ideas to co-workers. Don’t just be a wallflower, this is your time to shine and show them what you can bring to the organization. Also spend less time idling. Working can be tiring and that extra chill time is tempting but ask your supervisor first if there is any work that you can assist with. Usually If they don't have any for you then they'll just ask you to wait until you're called upon.
  • Employer’s Feedback
This is an important tip for your self growth with regards to building your skills. Don’t be afraid to ask them for feedback from time to time about your progress. They can provide insights on how you are doing so far. Feedback can be good and bad. So take them as constructive criticisms. It gives room for you to improve yourself.
  • Express interest on getting hired
If you're really keen about working with the company, show your eagerness to work with the them. Work hard and build a good rapport with the organisation. The next time you apply for a job they'll remember you. Also having a good relationship with your co-workers during the internship period is crucial. Their recommendations can ensure you a permanent job with the company if you’re thinking of joining them.

Sephora Malaysia is proud to announce the arrival of 3 Concept Eyes or 3CE in short during their launch in Nu Sentral, Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

For those who didn’t know, 3CE is a famous Korean brand that was founded by StyleNanda, a famous Korean fashion line. It was created to help express the beauty and uniqueness of women with the help from the sense and creativity 3CE brings.

Since Korean women are known to be more bare face in public, meaning they prefer a no make-up look, one of their best sellers’ turns out to be their foundation! Their foundation gives the users a dewy look, similar to Korean models. Unfortunately their coverage is more medium and concealers are needed to cover up spots and under eyes.

Apart from their foundation, 3CE is also known for creating fun lipstick colors! I’m talking neon pink, bright purple and even orange. But they also have normal colors for those who are too scared to try bold colors. Their average longevity is around 3 hours without having to reapply. 3CE products is also known as a 2 in 1 where their lipsticks can also be used as blushers. Why waste money eh?

Look at all the beautiful colors!!
In my opinion, their products are of high end quality but without the high end price tag. However, their price isn’t actually drugstore cheap either. I’d say it is in between, making it affordable to their customers who doesn’t have the budget for high end products.

During the launch, the ambassador for 3CE, Park Sora even dropped by. Those with exclusive invites were given the chance to take pictures with Sora at the photobooth for only 20 minutes! I managed to grab a photo with her and honest to God, she is so gorgeous it made my head hurt.

Look at how gorgeous she is!
Apart from Park Sora, famous makeup artist, Stella Shim was also at the launch. Stella’s portfolio includes America’s Next Top Model cycle 21 and recent London Fashion Week. Those attending were given a glimpse of how Stella created a typical Korean look which only involves the basic makeup necessities.

While there are a lot of 3CE products available now, Sephora does not carry the whole line. For example, 3CE’s famous lip pigment is not available in stores, which is a huge disappointment because that was the one I was looking forward to the most. So here’s hoping Sephora will continue to update their 3CE stocks!

So to those of you who are interested with 3CE, you can head on down to your nearest Sephora and get your hands on them before it solds out!
Guess who’s backkkk? Well, the haze that is. This time around, it came from Riau, Indonesia due to an uncontrolled forest fire. Unfortunately for us Malaysians and Singaporeans, we are also suffering from the fire. In just one week, most states in Peninsular Malaysia has recorded unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) record, ranging from 70-180 and what makes it worse is that the index is only getting higher day by day.

The haze carries a lot of matter that is dangerous for your health such as carbon monoxide, dirt and other stuff. So, we have to take precaution in order for you and your family to stay safe and healthy during the hazy days.

Stay Indoors as often as possible
It is obviously impossible to stay indoors 24/7 but it is better if you cancel any plans of going to any outdoor concert happening soon. Most of the haze obviously occurs outside. So by being indoors, you would prevent yourself from being exposed to the haze. To those with children, do not wait until the government announces a state of emergency before pulling your children from school. However, staying indoors doesn't mean that you can't have fun! Indoor camping is an example of interesting things you can do with your family without leaving the comfort of your home.

Wear a mask
Wearing a mask might not make you look as cool as you want to be but it is very necessary in order for you to not inhale and haze in to your lungs. Since the haze originated from smoke, inhaling it is equal to inhaling second hand smoke which is very bad. Too much of it and you can develop lung cancer. A suggestion is a N95 mask. It might look weird with its shape, but apparently, this type of mask filters the most amount of air that you will inhale.

Consult a doctor
If you are already feeling sick with a) Sore Throat b) Running Nose and c) Throat Irritation, it is safe to say that you are in need of a trip to the doctors. The reason being is that you need to prevent anything from becoming worse. Oh, and those with asthma are advised to have their inhaler with them at all time!

Drink Lots of Water
During the haze, the risk of you being dehydrated is high because of the lack of clean air around you. Other than that, drinking water allows your kidneys to remove the toxins that you might have absorbed. Avoid drinking coffee since caffeine actually tends to absorb the water in your body.

The first and only edutainment centre in Malaysia, Kidzania has recently invited us to be a part of their annual event “Back-2-Kidz” where adults are allowed into the fun zone to unleash the kid in them for three and a half hours. The purpose of this event is to give exposure on how beneficial and educating Kidzania is by letting the adults engage in the activities provided. Normally, adults can only accompany the children but not this time.

We were welcomed by the Project Manager of the event, Darryl who told us that by letting the adults to experience the activities themselves, they will realize how important it is to expose the young ones to involve in interactive learning as one of the measures to help develop their passion at an early age.

Personally, we were amazed at the interior of the building or as they called it “city” because the simulations look VERY real and it would leave you in awe and somehow, that instant, the kid in you will be dying to get out! You will be given 50 kidzos upon entry to be spent but there are also activities that will pay you such as the Poslaju delivery or being a surgeon at KPJ Specialist Hospital so you will get a taste of the real job.

The staffs there are all very friendly, cheery and high on energy to keep you pumped throughout the day. We didn’t see anyone who was sad or reluctant to participate; everyone was having a good time! There’s no denying that Kidzania probably is one of the places that gives people positive, happy vibes.

Kidzania offers a well-rounded experience for visitors because they provide various choices of activities that one can do. The activities can be divided into few categories: Services, Food & Beverages, Retail, Motor Industry, Media, Culture, Transportation, Utility, Education, Residential, Entertainment and Fitness. So there are supreme court, theatre, police station, art school, factories, supermarket, bank, airport and many more. All these to tailor your interest and passion for the actual occupations.

In a nutshell, this experience was filled with exposure to the career world for the young ones. Kidzania is truly a helpful place to prepare your children to build their confidence and to see a glimpse of the adult world. The interactive undertakings in the Kidzania City is a power tool for the fresh generation.

What are you waiting for, grown-ups? The next event will be held this 29th of August so make sure you won’t miss it! We guarantee you will have so much fun. For more info you can contact them here.

After two years, The Maine came back to South East Asia for their American Candy (which is their latest album) tour. Of course it was heartbreaking that Malaysia wasn't included in the list of countries they visit but we had the opportunity to catch them in Singapore which was their last stop of the SEA tour.

The show was held at St. James Power Station and started at 8pm on 16th August 2015. There was no opening act, but the room was crowded way before that since there was a signing session earlier that evening. And one thing for sure, unlike any other bands, these lads are punctual!

They hit the stage by kicking it off with "Miles Away" which immediately got the fans excited and screaming. It was a great choice to get everyone in the mood. Other songs performed from their latest album include "My Hair" "Same Suit, Different Tie" "American Candy" and of course, fans' favorite "English Girls".

The band gave the crowd a very energetic performance throughout the hours and for those who never seen them live, you'd be amazed at how tight Kennedy, Garrett, Jared and Pat play their instrument in addition to John's impeccable husky voice.

It was a well rounded show (and ended pretty quick too) considering they played songs from their previous albums such as "Into Your Arms" "My Heroine" "Misery" "Inside of You" "Like We Did (Windows Down)" "Growing Up" "Identify" and "Jenny".

However, they slowed it down in the middle of the show by leaving John alone on the stage to give the fans an inspiring pep talk. It was heartwarming for the fans to see him reminding everyone to enjoy the every second of their lives and to always strive for their dreams like they did.

The Maine then spiced things up by John entering the fan zone while singing a song from The Rolling Stones which sent everybody reeling!

Overall, it was a terrific show from an amazing band. And if they come to visit SEA again like they promised to, there's no questioning that you should see them!

Local hardcore band based in Kuala Lumpur, Lost Control has recently released a new track including a music video entitled "Evil Hands". The track was taken from the newly released EP entitled "Spreading Necrosis" which also features Rat Path (Seattle) in the song called 'Wasteland'.

The release was the first goal the band aim to achieve and it is proven to be a success based on the feedback they have been getting.

"To us it was like the first chapter of a book had finally finished,"

Besides that, the band which is under the Grave Stone Records is also doing a split EP with State of Pain from Singapore.

Formed in 2012, the band consists of Aiman Aizzat, Shahrel Rafiqin and Ezzat Syahmi which was then joined by Anis Anwary and Syukri Rahmat in 2013. They have been performing throughout peninsular Malaysia over the years and have been getting more recognition as well as fans from the scene.

When asked about the story behind the band's name, they told us that they were trying to come up with something chaotic and disordered but at the same time simple and direct. Thus, the name Lost Control.

Driven by every band that did not succumbed or surrender to live up to society's standard and those who are true to themselves, these young gentlemen are musically influenced by old school metal bands, sludge and hardcore.

So if you're down for a really good headbanging and brutal moshing session, you better prepare yourself for their dirty and loud tunes packed with aggressive elements that will blow your brains off!

Being in a relationship means that you respect and care enough about each other to be together. It can be for any reason that you are together, but you should NEVER be in a relationship just because you succumb to peer pressure. Just because your friends are dating, does not mean that you have to do the same.

When you’re in a relationship, you’d obviously want it to last forever (and ever and ever…) However, there are times when you should know that you have to back out. Especially when they start pressuring you to change yourself. At first, it’ll be some small tedious stuff that you wouldn’t even think twice of. For example, making you change your clothes or even cutting your hair. Those are actually signs or warnings for you to leave.

No? You’re still gonna make it work? Well, it’s entirely up to you. But most of the time, it’s about to go downhill from there. After small things, they’d force you to take drastic changes. They would start choosing who you can be friends with and they would also take up most of your time so you wouldn’t be able to see anyone else.

This type of partners is called the possessive ones. They would want your entire life to revolve around them and them alone. But you can’t control their lives. That right there is why this is unfair. They can judge you and change you, but you can’t do the same to them. They can have friends, but not you.

Slowly, you would lose your friends because you are so caught up in pleasing your partner that you’d completely ignore those who actually care about you. These friends of yours would most probably be able to understand your situation at first, but if you keep blowing them off every time they need you, they would be fed up and leave you.

So take my advice and leave those who want to change you to what they see of you, regardless if its good or not. You are perfect in your own way and if they don’t agree, then leave. A relationship is made of compromises. If they are threatening you with something, then you should know that the relationship is not healthy.

So your partner might look like Brad Pitt or even Megan Fox. But if they treat you like shit, then their looks doesn’t matter anymore. Truth is, you might end up with a guy that has absolutely nothing to his name and you can be happier than with a guy who has everything. Look at your options. Don’t just date a person that only thinks of you as a prize because you are worth so much more than that.

Find someone who loves you because of you. Because at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Pasar Boco is back! Its an event where the love for books, arts and crafts are celebrated alongside poetry and music performances from local musicians, writers and poets. This is also where you can get all the indie books and diy goods! For Boco #14, the organizer collaborated with Kawan Fest and it was held at the Zebra Square, Kuala Lumpur.

Among the performers invited for this event are Iqbal M and Hadi Jaafar (from Laila's Lounge). Besides that, there are also short films screenings for visitors to enjoy while laying back on those bean bags that (we know) no one can resists.

Organized by Wani Ardy, this event started small in 2008 with its main focus of promoting the independent literary scene in Malaysia. It is held every four months around Klang Valley and carries different themes for different venues. A flea market was also held throughout the event.

It is undeniable that events like Boco provides a platform for our locals to showcase their talents or expand their business. Nonetheless, it helps the independent scene in Malaysia to constantly grow from time to time. It is vital for us, the youth especially, to continuously give our support to this kind of movement that can help nurture our literature and music scene. So yes, make sure to stay updated with what's happening in your town and follow Boco on the social networks below!
